NYF expresses condolences
The following statement was issued by Dr. Kavinda Jayawardena, WPC
member and Head of the Human Rights/National Youth Front on the recent
occurences in Palestine.
"It is with a sense of deep regret, we record the brutal incidents in
the Gaza strip of Palestine, where indiscriminate bombardments, rocket
firing and air strikes by both the Israeli forces and their antagonists,
had left a sorry trail of over one-hundred people displaced and almost
double the number killed or maimed.
Those affected were mostly civilians of both warring factions,
including women and children.
The Palestinians have been subjected to physical assault and severe
mental trauma, due to the continued incidents for the past two weeks.
Firstly, as for the tragic deaths and displacement of innocent human
beings in particular and the people of Palestine and Israel in general,
the United Youth front of Sri Lanka, a political wing of the United
National Party hereby convey our sincere and deep condolences on the
death and displacement of innocent civilians, wherever they are.
We therefore urge the intervention of the United Nations, to render
assistance Palestinians to provide food, shelter, health facilities and
peace, to the inhabitants of Palestine and Israel.
