Work on 88 ft. tall Buddha Statue in progress

The third stage of the 88 ft. high Sambuddha Jayanthi Buddha statue near Mahiyangana temple was launched after the chief incumbent of the Mahiyangana temple, Urulawatte Dhammarakkitha thera laid the foundation stone recently.

Prof. Chandana Jayarathna, President of the Methsaviya organisation said that they had spent Rs 75 lakhs for the pedestal alone.

The contribution of the statue is handled by Ven. Ratnapura Nanda Thera.

The statue depicts the Buddha's act of enlightening the Yakkas on the right path. According to Ven. Urulawatte Dharmmarakkitha thera a colloseal amount of money necessary for the completion of this project and as such he calls upon the people to make a donation to complete it early.

All contributions may be remitted to account number 00056000118 Kiribathgoda branch of the Sampath Bank. A receipt will be issued for each donation by the Mahiyangana temple, or the Methsaviya office of Sri Lanka Vijayaramaya.

Ven. Urulawatte Dammarakkitha thera, Ven. Amarapura Darmarakshitha Nikaya Anunayaka Thera, Ven Ahangama Ananda Thera, Ven. Ratnapura Nanda Thera, Prof. Chandana Jayaratna, Badulla district MP Thenuka Vidanagamage and District Secretary Rohana Keerthi Dissanayaka and officers participated.
