Ilex Perera - 'no more'
Ilex Perera of Dehiyagatha in Ja-Ela was a very sports minded person
and was the youngest of his family and was educated at St. Anne's
College, Wattala and later at Christ - the King College, Tudella.
Football was the sport that he fancied most, but he also fancied the
game of rugby football. He took a real liking for Rugby Football in
later life. Getting on to the Sri Lanka Navy, Ilex Perera developed a
liking for Rugby Football under the leadership of Irshad Bin Ali with
Omar Sheriff, P.L.B. Nandasiri, Brian Van Heer, Ramanayake, Tom Halideen,
Bin Ghalip and boxer Somapala Perera and they were coached by Percy
'Penalty' Perera.
Ilex Perera is survived by wife Elizabeth, sons Varna and Ranga (both
in U.K.) |
