The Sri Lanka Foundation (SLF), the national centre for leadership,
education and training, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Owinka
Lake Resorts, Wadduwa to conduct training programs in tourism and
hospitality management. The agreement was signed at the SLF auditorium
last week.
Senior Lecturer and Head of the Tourism and Hospitality Management
Unit of the SLF, Bharatha Herath said that the partnership will
introduce circuit training and psychological and counselling programs
which will help improve the standard of the hospitality industry.
He said that SLF conducts management courses on hospitality
management for low-income family students with assistance from donor
agents. The organisation will expand the programs to enable youth from
the regions to take part in such programs.
"Partnership agreements of this nature will be a win -win situation
for all parties. The SLF conducts programs with the Ministry of Sports
and other institutions on counselling and physical training," Herath
said.
Owinka Lake Resorts, Managing Director P.D.P. Gunathilake said that
there is a big demand for out-bound training programs which help boost
the morale and skills of youth in the hotel and hospitality industry.
"We are confident that the collaboration will bear fruit and contribute
to the growth of the tourism industry," he said.
