The Yal Devi, the legendary train that linked Jaffna and Colombo, returned to the Jaffna railway station on Monday after 23 years President Mahinda Rajapaksa who travelled on the Yal Devi, opened the ATM that the Bank of Ceylon (BoC) installed at the station for the convenience of travellers. The BoC has been in the forefront in providing banking and financial services to northerners with the opening of the Jaffna branch in 1945. In 2009, the BoC management and staff made an extraordinary contribution in re-establishing normalcy within the region by expanding branch network in the North. Being aligned with the Government's Northern development program Uthuru Wasanthaya, the Bank of Ceylon introduced SME projects to rebuild the lives of the people. With the success of phase I, the bank has now moved into the Phase II. The bank covers the Northern Province with 60 branches and eight service points connected online with all branches in the country and customers enjoy all banking and financial facilities that are available in other parts of the country. The bank has provided substantial support to develop local schools, libraries and public hospitals during the past few years. Through a number of CSR activities and excellent banking services, the Bank of Ceylon has become a close partner of the people of the Northern Province. The Bank of Ceylon earned global recognition as one of the top 1,000 banks in the world, as listed by The Banker Magazine (UK) in 2012, 2013 and 2014.
