Voting ends in peaceful manner

 

Voting for the seventh Presidential Election concluded a short while ago in a peaceful atmosphere with no major incidents of violence or violation of election law were reported, independent election monitors said.

The voting which commenced at 7.00am in 12, 314 polling stations in 22 administrative districts countrywide was concluded at 4.00pm.

The ballot boxes were being transported to respective counting centres by the election duty officials escorted by the police and the independent monitors.

The counting will begin at 6.00pm in the presence of foreign independent monitors and representatives of PAFFREL, CMEV and CAFFE.

A high voter turnout had been reported with a percentage of 70 being reported in many districts, Election Returning Officers said.

Over 71, 000 police and STF personnel are deployed for security and election duties countrywide, the police said.
