Vaiko under fire for celebrating Prabhakaran’s birth anniversary
New Delhi: The leaders of various political parties on Wednesday
criticised MDMK founder Vaiko for celebrating the 60th birth anniversary
of slain LTTE founder V. Prabhakaran.
BJP leader and former Home Secretary R.K. Singh condemned the move,
saying it was extremely wrong to do so. “Prabhakaran and his
organisation fought with our Army, they killed our former Prime Minister
Rajiv Gandhi. It is a very wrong thing,” he said.
Congress leader Ashwani Kumar called the move ‘anti-national’.
“It is very unfortunate that in India someone is celebrating the
birthday of Prabhakaran who is known to have worked for the
disintegration of the country and who is known to be a protagonist of
terrorism in the pursuit of political goals,” said Kumar.
“I think the nation as a whole must take a forthright stand. This is
clearly unacceptable in the country,” he said. Vaiko celebrated the 60th
birth anniversary of slain Tiger leader Velupillai Prabhakaran by
cutting a cake.
“Our leader celebrated the birth anniversary of Prabhakaran by
cutting a cake in Karur district,” a party official told IANS.
