The Agricultural Export Department has commenced the cultivation of ginger in several areas of the Kurunegala district in large scale. One hundred and twenty hectares of lands are now under ginger cultivations in Ibbagamuwa, Polpithigama and Polgahawela Divisional Secretary areas of the Kurunegala district.

Over 500 farmers are now being trained on growing ginger. Free manure and expertise would be provided to the farming community to grow ginger and Rs. 5.4 million would be granted as subsidies next year to the farmers of the Kurunegala district.
