Agricultural farms in all government schools

The Ministry of Education will set up agricultural farms in all government schools and national colleges of education countrywide in keeping with national development program of Divineguma in keeping with the instructions of Minister Bandula Gunawardena steps have been taken to teach agriculture, post-harvest technology and farm management as subjects in 251 government schools.

Students should have the skills of growing food crops and they should be encouraged to grow and admire varieties of fruits and vegetables.

There are 18 national colleges of education and the teacher trainees would be trained on proper gardening too in addition to the specific subject areas that thy are supposed to follow during their training. Around 3,500 teacher-trainees would annually undergo the academic training sessions at these National Colleges of Education said Minister of Education Bandula Gunawardena at a meeting of school principals of the Kurunegala District held recently at Kurunegala. Chief Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara also present at the occasion.
