Likening LTTE Heroes’ Day to Canada’s Remembrance

Canadian parliamentarians slam LTTE sympathiser
by Manjula Fernando
An LTTE sympathiser, Canadian National Democratic Party MP Rathika
Sitsabaiesan was castigated by fellow parliamentarians for making a
statement in Parliament likening LTTE Heroes’ Day to Canada’s
Remembrance Day.
Canada’s Public Safety Minister Steven Blaney said he was “shocked
and appalled” at her drawing a parallel between the two events, one
commemorating terrorists who exploited suicide bombers to kill even
moderate Tamil leaders and the other fallen war heroes of Canada.
“I am shocked and appalled that an NDP member of Parliament would not
only endorse the celebration of terrorists, but also equate it to the
solemn occasion of Remembrance Day where we honour our fallen Canadian
heroes,” National Post quoted the Public Safety Minister as saying and
added that the Tamil MP should apologise to veterans and all Canadians
for her statement in Parliament.
A moderate Tamil Canadian who wished to remain anonymous told the
Sunday Observer over the phone that MP Sitabaiesan has the least
knowledge of Sri Lanka and the Tamils living there. “Everything she says
is based on LTTE propaganda. She herself has become a propagandist for
the outfit.” |
