US president to travel to India early next year

US President Barack Obama is set pay a visit to India early next year
to attend the celebrations marking the country’s Republic Day. Obama
will travel to the Indian capital New Delhi in January at the invitation
of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take part in the celebrations marking
the anniversary of the adoption of the Indian constitution in January
1950.
He will be the first US president to take part in India’s Republic
Day ceremonies.“The president will travel to India in January 2015 to
participate in the Indian Republic Day celebration in New Delhi,” the
White House said in a statement released .
Obama “will meet with the prime minister and Indian officials to
strengthen and expand the US-India strategic partnership,” it added.This
will be Obama’s second visit to India as president following his first
trip to the South Asian country in 2010.In September, Modi spent a
couple of days in Washington and discussed issues of mutual interest
with Obama. |
