Police nab 355 drunken drivers during season

Police nabbed 355 drivers who drove under the influence of liquor during the festive season since Christmas eve, the police said.

Police Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said a special surveillance program was launched from 6.00 am on December 24 to 6.00 am on January 1 to apprehend drunk drivers.

Among the arrested were 181 motorcyclists, 118 trishaw drivers, 25 car drivers , 12 lorry, 11 van drivers and eight other vehicles. This also included four who drove public transportation vehicles.

The police through the 24-hours surveillance from Friday 6.00 am on December 26 to Saturday 6.00 am on December 27 nabbed 192 drunk drivers.

SSP Rohana warned drivers to be careful before sitting behind the wheel after consuming alcohol that tough legal action would be meted out against the culprits.
