It is important to make people feel appreciated. This will enable
them to achieve their fullest potential, Group CEO, Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT)
Lalith de Silva, told the awards ceremony of art and essay competition,
held on the theme Kelaguna Salakeema. The competition for schoolchildren
was a part of a series of company initiatives under the same theme.
The Kelaguna Salakeema program took off with a Vesak program in May
last year. This was followed by the setting up of a library for patients
and staff of the Cancer Hospital in Maharagama. Several book donations
were also made to schools and educational institutes around the island
under the program.
Students from around the island took part in junior and senior
categories in the art and essay competitions. Close to 300
schoolchildren participated in the art competition, while the essay
competition saw over a 100 participate.
The art and essay competition saw 34 winners emerge, being placed
first, second and third, while a further seven special awards were made
in each category.
De Silva said, "The values, the learning, the empathy these children
have shown in the art and essay competition is indeed encouraging. This
is precisely why we have to start nurturing our younger generation and
teach them the value of a just and appreciative society. It is only
through them that we can build and grow a better future." |
