Right to Information Act soon - Minister Gayantha Karunathilake

Galle District Parliamentarian Media and Information Minister Gayantha Karunathilake assumed duties at the Media Ministry on Friday amidst a large gathering of well-wishers including the former Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella.

After assuming duties he said that he would take steps to depoliticise all institutions which had been badly politicised during the last number of years.

He said that he will hold regular meetings with all media institutional heads and work out a regulatory framework to provide a better service to the public.

The Right to Information Act will be implemented as soon as possible, Minister Karunathilake said. He called upon all top class-media men who left the island for fear of their lives to return to the country and make their contribution to the media field without fear or favour. He guaranteed their safety and protection.

Minister Gayantha Karunathilake has also been appointed as the Chief Government Whip of Parliament by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
