Fitness and Sports magazine-an inspiration to a healthy lifestyle
Fitness & Sports,a quarterly launched recently, aims to inspire and
inform its readers to adopt a fitness lifestyle, with high quality
content. The Magazine is authored by doctors, sportsmen, coaches,
personal trainers and individuals who live the fitness lifestyle and
give testament to its many benefits.
The magazine contains workouts and diets of elite sportsmen which
will help readers understand the standards they need to reach in
training and nutrition. It also strives to inspire and inform readers of
all ages to achieve their own fitness goals and enjoy life to the
fullest. The personal stories of sportsmen will inspire youngsters and
teach them the discipline and dedication it takes to represent the
country on the world stage.
The magazine also wishes to inculcate amongst youngsters good values
that sport teaches such as teamwork and respect for one another.
Praveen Emmanuel Muttukumaru is the Editor of the magazine published
by PE Enterprises. Fitness and sports have been his lifelong passion.
Praveen played football and was an athlete in school and competed in
cross country running and athletics when he was at university in the
United States.
Later Praveen began to focus more on weight training, and worked out
at a boxing gym, learning the basics of the "sweet science" of the
sport. In the U.S. he observed different training methods of people
which gave him the different perspectives of training.
Back in Sri Lanka, Praveen worked in Corporate Communications and
Sales. This gave him an understanding and appreciation of marketing at
ground levelas well as of building relationships. He then went to the
U.K. to do an MBA. In the UK, Praveen worked out in an old school boxing
gym as well as in a state-of-the art gym. Working out in the cold gloomy
English weather "toughens your soul and is also a poetic experience".
"There is a rich history of physical training amongst the working class
in the U.K. which has spread to other segments of English society". From
the UK, Praveen moved to Singapore where he met his future boss, an
ex-British army officer with an illustrious career spanning military,
corporate and philanthropy, who was in Singapore embarking on his new
venture, an adventure park on Sentosa Island.
The two hit-it-off and Praveen became his first employee, assisting
him in setting up the adventure park and then moving on to operational
and sales roles. This experience gave Praveen a first-hand look at
setting up a business.
While at Singapore Praveen also worked out at a local boxing club and
experienced full contact sparring.
After moving back to Sri Lanka, Praveen joined a property development
company. He always wanted to start his own venture but he did not know
what it would be. As time passed he realised that what he truly loved
was working out and learning more about fitness. He also began following
local club rugby.
Praveen then decided in 2014 to launch a fitness magazine that would
cover the fitness routines for sports as well. The magazine brought
together his love of fitness and his love of the English language to
help communicate to his audience the subject of fitness. It was a
perfect fit!
He could call on his coaches from his running days in the sports
ministry and also on the friendships he had made working out at the gym
in the Royal College Sports Complex.
Through fitness he has made a lot of friends and continues to meet
new people who are eager to share their knowledge and experience for the
benefit of others.
Praveen is thankful for the support and encouragement of his family
to live his dream of starting his own venture in a field which he truly
loves. His goal is to bring fitness knowledge to all Sri Lankans and he
hopes to also share foreign expertise in the magazine so Sri Lankans can
up their fitness levels to new heights.
