Laksala celebrates Avurudu

Laksala, Sri Lanka’s premier handicraft centre, held its Avurudu festival recently. With its mission to uplift and sustain the handicraft sector, Laksala has become one of the main tourist shopping centres in the country.

Laksala Consultant Indira Malwatte said, "All products sold at Laksala are manufactured in Sri Lanka by skilled craftsmen. We must improve their lives not through charity or handouts, but by improving the designs and quality of their products.

This is why we decided on the theme 'Gift a handicraft item this Avurudu'. This will give them a fair and sustainable price. The crafts community will benefit paving the way for social and economic development," she said. Here are some highlights of the Laksala Avurudu celebrations:
