Classic Travel promotes environmental conservation
Classic Travel will fund a full-fledged ‘green project’ at the Sri
Sudarshanarama Junior School, Batapotha, to promote environmental
conservation practices.
The project launched with the support of the Central Environmental
Authority, covers a wide array of activities to protect the environment
within the school and guide students to become ‘Environmental pioneers’.
The project activities will begin with forming of ‘Environmental
Pioneer’ groups among schoolchildren, conducting awareness campaigns and
launching a tree planting program including indigenous species.
This will be followed by the setting up of botanical and herbal
gardens and landscaping. CEO, Classic Travel, Suresh Mendis said, “It is
important to instill a sense of responsibility about protecting the
environment in children from a young age.
We live in an era of excessive and careless consumption which results
in harming the very environment that we depend on.” “All global citizens
have an obligation to care for the environment, in particular business
entities such as us.
We are pleased to be a part of this endeavour to help children
discover the value of protecting the environment,” he said.
Set up in October, 1952, Sri Sudarshanaramaya Junior School has 300
students.
The school conducts classes from Grade one up to the GCE Ordinary
Level.
