SLFP sacks five Central Committee members

Five senior MPs were sacked from the SLFP Central Committee in a sudden move last evening. Former Ministers, Bandula Gunawardena, T. B. Ekanayake, Salinda Dissanayaka, S. M. Chandrasena and Rohitha Abeygunawardena, currently members of the UPFA parliamentary group have been summarily removed from the Central Committee, the Party’s main policy-making body, the Sunday Observer learns. Party sources said that all five had been issued with letters informing them of their removal for disobeying Central Committee directives.

Political sources said that the move was a drastic action to discipline MPs who had flouted high command orders not to attend rallies supporting former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
