The fund established by the Sri Lanka Disaster Management Centre (DMC)
to support the reconstruction efforts in Nepal has reached nearly Rs. 6
million within a week.
"At the moment, we have stopped accepting material donations," said
DMC Spokesman, Sarath Lal Kumara. Donations to the fund are directed to
the Disaster Management Nepal Earthquake account of the People's Bank.
"We would appreciate if people could contribute to the fund, as this
will enable the Sri Lankan Government to assists the Nepal Government's
reconstruction efforts, going beyond the provisionno of material goods
as emergency relief," he added.
The DMC is preparing to send a fourth consignment to Nepal with the
available relief items this week, either through the Sri Lanka Air
Force(SLAF) or Sri Lankan Airlines, depending on flight availability.
The third consignment was dispatched to Kathmandu yesterday(2)
morning, containing bottled water, medical supplies and dry rations
weighing over 13 metric tonnes on board SLAF's C130 . |
