'Common Ground' at Smithsonian's National Zoo
The international documentary film 'Common Ground' focusing on Sri
Lanka's human-elephant conflict was screened at the Smithsonian's
National Zoo in Washington D.C. on June 5, 2015.
The screening was jointly organized by the Smithsonian's National Zoo
and the Sri Lanka Embassy in Washington D.C.
The film highlights the practical and critical aspects of managing
Sri Lanka's almost 6000-strong herd of wild elephants as they face
habitat loss due to the growing demand for agricultural and residential
land in Sri Lanka's rural provinces.
Prasad Kariyawasam highlighted that the title of the film ''Common
Ground' was indication of the focus of the film - the quest for land by
humans and elephants.
'Common Ground' is a civil society-sponsored documentary directed by
Philip Buccellato and produced by Greener Media. |
