Three new records by Chathurika

Chathurika Weerasinghe, an old girl of Vijitha Maha Vidyalaya,
Dikwella came out with a sterling performance to set 3 new Sri Lanka
records in Weight Lifting (trials) held recently at the Weight Lifting
Centre of the Ministry of Sports, Colombo.
These trials were held to select the team for the International
Weight Lifting Contests to be held in the near future. She erased her
own two records when she clean jerked 90 Kgs contesting the 69 Kgs
Women's weight class. Her total lift was 155 Kg and this time she lifted
a total of 162 Kgs improving by 7 Kgs.
In the snatch Chathurika established a record by lifting 72 kgs to
beat the previous record of 71 Kg. Set by S.L. Air Force lifter Vinodini.
She got a push in weight lifting by Coaches Palitha Weerasinghe of
Ruhunu University. A.B. Wickremasinghe the National Weight Lifting Coach
and P.K.G. Dayan, an Internationally qualified Coach.
Chaturika is a versatile Sportswoman and is highly involved in the
game of Cricket as well. She was in the Ladies National Pool and she was
coached by Prasanna Galappaththi.
She represented Seenigama Ladies Cricket team as an allrounder. She
was also good at Athletics and has been coached by Keerthi Kumar of
Ruhunu University.
Presently Chathurika is practicing hard at the Weight Lifting Centre,
Wewalpitiya, Kandy under the watchful eyes of National Coaches A.B.
Wickremasinghe and P.K.G. Dayan for the National Weight Lifting contest
to be held in July at Polonnaruwa.
