India bans wives and girl friends in Sri Lanka

With most of India's top cricketers getting about a month's break, the BCCI reportedly sees no reason for players to take their partners on an important Test series in Sri Lanka.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has reportedly prohibited wives and girlfriends from accompanying Indian cricketers on their upcoming tour to Sri Lanka.

The team will play three Tests starting in Galle on August 12. The Virat Kohli-led team flies out to Colombo on August 3.Most of the Indian cricketers are coming from a long break of close to a month since a rather forgettable tour of Bangladesh.

The Indian Board therefore feels that the previous policy of not allowing partners on tours should be implemented again as the players have spent considerable time home.

"Most of the players on tour are just coming off a month-long break where they had enough time to spend with their families.

And we've decided that their wives will not be allowed on tour," a BCCI official was quoted as saying in the Indian Express. In recent times, Kohli and his girlfriend Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma have made headlines during tours. Anushka has followed Kohli almost everywhere and the duo has attracted a lot of media attention. Players like Ajinkya Rahane have married recently. Kohli and Anushka were recently holidaying in South Africa's Kruger National Park.

They were seen at Wimbledon too alongside the Tendulkars. But with India desperate to win Tests overseas, the BCCI feels the players should only focus on cricket. And a lot depends on how the Kohlis and Rahanes bat. -NDTV
