One of Asia's largest food, agriculture and packing exhibitions, the
'Pro Food Pro Pack' was held for the 14th consecutive year at the BMICH
last week . There were several new participants from other countries
this year.
"We help the Government to support small and medium enterprises.
The food manufacturing sector is one of the sectors that needs a lot
of help. Therefore, we will support the growth of this sector throughout
the country," Country Director Sri Lanka and the Maldives, GIZ, Randa
Kouriesh-anarivelo said.
The key factor for the development of this sector is value addition.
Though Sri Lanka is an agricultural country and around sixty percent
of the people are involved in agriculture, the contribution to the
national economy is still around 10 percent. Value-addition benefits all
stake holders from the farmer upwards, said Chairman, National Agri
Business Council, Rizvi Zaheed.
The exhibition was supported by the Ministry of Agriculture and
Ministry of Industry and Commerce. |
