Plight of electorates that have no sitting member
The Aranayaka Electorate has no sitting member as none of the
candidates from the UPFA or the UNP have been elected. The UNP candidate
has polled nearly 45,000 preferential votes whereas the UPFA candidate
has polled 28,000 votes.
The voters from both parties are in a dilemma since they don't have a
parliamentary representative to air their grievances. The prime minister
recently announced that the allocation for Members of Parliament who won
would be doubled. It is regrettable that the Aranayake electorate will
be deprived of this allocation since it hasn't a sitting member.
I presume that development projects which have commenced in this
electorate would be stopped. If that happens,it is unfair and an
injustice to the voters who used their invaluable franchise to support
the Government.
I request Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe to devise a mechanism
to offer funds for the defeated electorates including Aranayaka.
