Beyond the birds and the bees
"We
are all born sexual creatures, but it's a pity so many people despise
and crush this natural gift." - Marilyn Monroe, sexy queen of the silver
screen in the 50s and 60s.
During the time of Ravana, whether it belonged to a period of myths,
legends, and make-believe; or to times before recorded history; the
Asura sect that dominated the landscape of Lanka as the majority people,
was very permissive; their women could select a partner of her choice,
whenever she wanted. Ghandharva marriage was an accepted tradition and
the Asuras looked upon it as a right of their women.
Method
This ancient marriage tradition is the method of marriage where the
girl selects her own husband. They meet each other in their ordinary
village life, or in various other places such as regional festivals and
fairs; begin to enjoy one another's company, and decided to be together
of their own accord, consensually agreeing to live together. Based on
mutual attraction between a man and a woman; it required no rituals,
witnesses, or family participation.
This form of marriage did not require consent of parents or anyone
else. This free choice was, generally approved by society. Parents
usually left the daughter free in the selection of her lover. They did
not object to her love affairs. The mother of the girl laid faith in her
daughters choices and believed that the daughter's developed youth, post
puberty, and her acquired knowledge in all things considered necessary
to lead a good life, would safeguard her happiness.
For children of that time and age were, brought up with not only a
sense of freedom; but also were imparted with wisdom - unlike in modern
times where only greed and the folly of fools act as yardsticks to
learning.
Thus, for the single girls of that time, winning a husband for
herself was a smooth and happy sort of affair with nothing scandalous
and unnatural about it even when their relationship is, consummated in
copulation born of passion. According to Vedic records, this is one of
earliest and common form of marriage in Rig Vedic times. The marriage of
Dushyanta and Shakuntala was a historically celebrated example of this
class of marriage.
Sex is an emotion in motion. In the age gone by, sex was an art, a
celebration, an act of faith; and flirting was, considered a woman's
trade one must keep in practice. Yet now, it is a hush-hush matter, a
hit and run or hit and hide affair, a mere a titillation that only
tickles the imagination and tires the system. We fail to admit what we
do, and think it shameful while indulging in it, whenever the chance
affords, shamelessly and surreptitiously.
Celebration
The illicit prevalence of sex in the present times is, however, not
unlike during the time of Ravana; but the wisdom of the society of that
time did not see it as immoral and illicit; nor did they prohibited and
condemn it outside of wedlock, or look upon it as a shameful act.
The deterioration of wisdom in present times has failed to recognize
that it is as natural as having food.
In these days in which, the folly of fools abound; when men are
oppressed, it is considered a tragedy; when women are oppressed, it is
tradition. The single girls in Sri Lanka have such a sad time; sad
because they are brought up in an environment of oppression.
Sophistication demands of them that they submit to sex immediately
without proper preliminary understanding or talk. Not courting talk -
real straight talk - they realize not, that life is holy and every
moment is precious; that sex is a very sacred and spiritual act; the
most fun one can have without laughing. Lot of people have, forgotten
what it is; what it is meant for, and how important and consecrated it
really is.
This really is a very sad situation to be in for the single girl
because; a spiritual friend and mentor once told me that every time a
girl sleeps with somebody, she is taking on a part of him within her.
Discovered
I suppose, that is the reason why Scientists have discovered that, a
sizeable minority of women have Y-chromosome gene sequences in their
blood. This is interesting because as you may know, Y-chromosomes are
the chromosomes that belong to men; and so Ladies, what are they doing
there, and where did they come from? An obvious answer would be from
pregnancy with a male son, since every woman who has been pregnant still
carries cells from her foetus within her bloodstream. Cells from the
pregnancy will reside within the mother's bloodstream and organs for the
rest of her life, even if the pregnancy was terminated or if there was a
miscarriage. There is a name for this so-called condition, it is called
microchimerism, which is named after the Greek chimera, a mythical,
monstrous fire-breathing animal that is composed of the parts of three
animals: a lion, a snake and a goat.
Hence, that explains things for women who have given birth to sons;
but what about the women without sons that still carried male cells in
their bloodstream? This called for a study. Done by immunologists at the
Fred Hutchinson Caner Center in Seattle, Washington, in 2004; they took
samples from 120 women who had never had sons. They found that 21% of
these women had male DNA.
Miscarriage
The women were, then categorized into four groups according to
pregnancy history: Group A had only daughters, Group B had had one or
more miscarriage, Group C had induced abortions, and Group D had never
been pregnant before. The prevalence of male michrochimerism was
considerably greater in Group C, although it was still present in each
group: Group A 8%, Group B 22%, Group C 57%, and Group D 10%. The
conclusions of this study noted that the possible sources of male
michrochimerism included known pregnancies, miscarriages, vanished male
twins, or sexual intercourse. This means that through intercourse alone
there is a potential for women to hold onto male genes and DNA within
their organs and blood stream for their entire life!
This puts a new meaning on sexual intercourse as a whole. To learn
that there is actual scientific proof to back this up and prove that it
is more than a physical thing, that it is more than just expending
energy, is astounding. The idea that women are capable of taking on
actual physical DNA from the men that they sleep with is an extremely
eye opening piece of information.
Thus, to give sex somewhat freely because of insecurity, or to please
or impress a man, without actually even realizing how irresponsible this
was; and because, at the time, it was just sex, and when you are
completely disconnected from yourself, it does not seem like it is a big
deal, requires second thought. Sex is not something that is meant to be
thrown around and given out so freely.
Humanity
It is a sacred act that creates a bond between two people that love
and care about each other. It is so important for women, for humanity,
to realize this. There is a lot of power and amazing potential within
this act and it has the ability to connect us with our true selves. Many
women are holding onto a lot of sexual baggage from their past, and it
is not my intent to make anyone regret past experiences. Rather, to let
go and embrace what the past has taught us, and move forward with this
knowledge is what I consider wise.
With this information, I am sure the single girl will think twice
about, who she is ending up in bed with. So girls, I trust you will
think before you leap, and I mean, into bed with someone.
