There will be as many as 1150 League matches with 222 schools
contesting the first round while the Limited Over tourney will showcase
110 matches with a total of 4400 players taking part in the tournament.
Asoka Pieris CEO of Singer Sri Lanka said: "Developing school cricket
in Sri Lanka is our main objective and we do not expect any financial
benefits by sponsoring this tournament. I give my sincere gratitude to
SLC and SLSCA for their guidance and cooperation."
Sri Lanka Cricket Vice-President Kushil Gunasekara said: "The Sri
Lanka schools cricket system is the best in the world and there is no
doubt about that but unfortunately we have not been able to win the ICC
U19 World Cup. Our main target is to win the Youth World Cup in 2016 or
in 2018".
The winner's trophy of the Singer schools U19 cricket tournament was
unveiled at the ceremony. The League tournament has already commenced
and the matches have to be completed by February 10, 2016 where each of
the 36 teams in the fray in four groups must play their quota of eight
