The Asian finals of the most coveted amateur golf tournament in the
world-the Mercedes Trophy, was recently concluded at Gold Coast,
Australia.
The two-day tournament saw the participation of golf enthusiasts from
nine countries who competed for a chance to participate in the World
Finals to be held in Stuttgart, Germany this October.
Thusith Wijesinghe (Captain), Kamlesh Johnpillai, Chandima Rodrigo,
Dr Rohitha Silva, Dharshan De Silva, Rohan Fernandez and Petra Mohard
who were winners of the Mercedes Trophy Country Finals held in Nuwara
Eliya participated in the Asian Finals representing Sri Lanka.
"This year's Country Finals was the first time I participated in the
Mercedes Trophy.
Both the Country and Asian Finals were very well organised. In fact I
regret not taking part earlier. We had a very good time and DIMO and
Mercedes really looked after us," said Chandima Rodrigo. The Country
Finals of the Mercedes Trophy is organized each year by Diesel and Motor
Engineering PLC (DIMO) and the only requirement for participation is to
be an owner of a Mercedes-Benz.
