Over 600 swimmers (men and women) will take the plunge at the ninth
Mercantile Swimming Championship for the President's Trophy at the
Thurstan College Swimming pool on October 4.
The meet organized by the Thurstan College Aquatic Club in
association with the Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union has gained rapid
popularity and is the only swimming meet for the employees in the
mercantile sector.
In the year 2000 Thurstan College took a giant step in introducing
swimming with a distinguished old boy Lion Gratien Goonewardena gifting
a six lane swimming pool with all facilities.
The meet will be conducted in three segments for amateur, campionship
and veterans.
The 2014 winners were MAS Holdings (1) John Keells Holdings (2) and
Sri Lankan Airlines who have dominated the meet over the past years and
are expected to be the cynosure of all eyes.
