SL-Indonesia Business Council holds AGM

The Sri Lanka-Indonesia Business Council (SLIBC) which functions
under the aegis of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce held its 22nd Annual
General Meeting at Taj Samudra recently. SLIBC was set up in 1991 to
promote trade, investment, tourism and services between the two
countries.
Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia in Sri Lanka and the patron
of the Council, Harimawan Suyitno was the chief guest.
The Ambassador said Sri Lanka could benefit by liaising with
Indonesia, one of the fastest growing economies in the world. Former Sri
Lankan Ambassador to Indonesia, Mrs. Anoja Wijeyesekera, the guest
speaker for the evening, made a presentation on 'Trade with Indonesia:
some insights and suggestions for improvement'.
She analysed Sri Lanka's declining export performance and the issues
facing exporters and made several suggestions to overcome these
problems. She also suggested some recommendations for the Government,
the BOI and the Chamber of Commerce.
"We need to do more to help exporters to tap the huge Indonesian
market, particularly its large Middle Class Affluent Consumers (MACS),"
she said.
Managing Director, Ceyline Holdings (Pvt) Ltd. Jayantha Rathnayake
was elected President of SLIBC for 2015-2016.
