Masters Basketball Sri Lanka to contest Pan Pacific tourney
Masters Basketball Sri Lanka (MBSL) have decided to send a team to
contest the 10th Jupiters Pan Pacific Masters Basketball Tournament to
be held in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia in November next year.
Masters Basketball Sri Lanka at its Council of Management meeting
held on November 12 with Neil Perera, president of the MBSL in the chair
unanimously decided to participate in the tournament in all age
categories. Sri Lanka has been participating on invitation in foreign
Masters Basketball Tournaments for nearly 20 years and have won trophies
in different age groups.
Brawin Fernando, the vice-president of Masters Basketball Sri Lanka
said that entries for participation in the age groups of over 35, 45, 55
and 65 in the Men's category and over 35, 45 and 55 in the Women's
category have opened and players must fall within the age groups on or
before November 5, 2016.
Fernando said that any person who is over 35 years and has played
basketball even at school level can become a member of the MBSL where
life-membership costs Rs.1,500 and qualify for participation in the
tournament as well as future Masters tournaments organized and conducted
by Masters Basketball in countries like Thailand, India, Bangladesh,
Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Pakistan and South Korea.
