Seetha Devi SC win Kandy hockey title

Seetha Devi Sports Club won the inter club Kandy District women's
hockey championship when they scored a close 2-1 win over Devians Sports
Club on penalty strokes at the University ground, Peradeniya.
The final could not be played due to wet ground conditions following
heavy rain.
Seetha Devi Sports Club fielding a virtual Sri Lanka team scored
through national captain Chathurika Wijesuriya and another national
player Pradeepa Nilmini Nandasena while the Devians scored off the stick
of Charuka Abeyratne.
For Seetha Devi Sports Club national goal keeper Jeewanthi
Keerthiratne was in brilliant form and brought off some good saves.
The others who excelled for the champions were Chathurika Wijesuriya,
Manisha Dissanayake, Geethani Abeyratne, Dharshani Herath, Pradeepa
Nilmini and Madura Dharmaratne.
The Seetha Devi Sports Club who only last week won the Royal College
Sevens were led by Sakuntala Illeperuma who stood between the posts
well. The others who performed well were Madhumali Karunatillake,
Charuka Abeyratne, Tharaki Paranagama, Thamali Dissanayake, Shehani
Fernando and Gimhani Tharaka. |
