HelpAge celebrates with free cataract surgeries
HelpAge Eye Hospital, Wellawatta will perform 50 free cataract
surgeries for underprivileged senior citizens on March 7.
The program will be conducted to coincide with the 30th anniversary
of HelpAge Sri Lanka (HASL).
This is a concept of Chairman, HelpAge Deshabandu Tilak de Zoysa.
The program will commence at 5.00 a.m..
Fifty patients will be selected from patients visiting the hospital
and patients screened by the HelpAge Mobile Medical Unit from various
parts of the country.
De Zoysa said this was the first time a hospital conducted such a
large number of free cataract surgeries in a day.
He said "In addition, we perform twenty cataract surgeries every day
for senior citizens at the HelpAge Eye Hospital, Wellawatte at no cost
to its beneficiaries."
Manager, HelpAge Eye Hospital, Ajitha de Alwis said "We use high
quality imported lenses for the surgeries."
HASL Executive Director Samantha Liyanawaduge said HelpAge
distributes free spectacles, equipment for the differently-abled and
conducts free mobile medical and eye camps countrywide,"

restore vision and improve the living standards of needy elders by

Pera Alumni Association AGM
The 25th Annual General Meeting of the Alumni Association of the
University of Peradeniya, Colombo Chapter will be held today at 9.30
a.m. at Bird Park, Buthgamuwa Road, Kalapaluwawa, Rajagiriya.
The Vice Chancellor of the Peradeniya University Prof. Upul
Dissanayake will be the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour, Karunasena
Hettiarachchi, Secretary to Ministry of Defence.
A new Council of Management will be elected. Members of the Colombo
Chapter are invited to be present and enjoy the day's proceedings with
campus highlights of yesteryear such as music inherent to Peradeniya and
other entertainment lined up to make it a memorable day.
