New association for insurance fraternity

The insurance fraternity formed the Association of Chartered Insurance Professionals for the Chartered Qualified Associate and Fellow Members of the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) of London at the Sri Lanka Insurance Institute last week. Insurance industry professionals were also present.

Deputy Chairman, Senaratne Insurance Brokers, Ainsley Alles was appointed as its first President with other insurance professionals as office-bearers and council members.

Nihal Senaratne of Senaratne Insurance Brokers (Vice President), Lasitha Wimalaratne of Asian Alliance Life (Secretary General), Jeevani Kariyawasam of People's Insurance (Assistant Secretary), Prasanth Fernando of HNB Assurance Life (Treasurer), Sithumina Jayasundara of HNB Assurance General (Assistant Treasurer), Iroshini Tittagala of Union Assurance (Membership Secretary).

Malika Wijeratne of Mercantile Insurance Brokers, Shani Ranasinghe of Janashakthi Insurance, Shelton Seneviratne of Allianz Life Insurance, Chaminda Athauda of Sri Lanka Insurance and Prasanna Welagedara of P&A Insurance Brokers, were appointed as council members.

Alles said the primary objectives of the association are to provide a forum for discussion of matters of professional and academic interest in the field of insurance and undertake study and research on areas impacting the insurance industry.

And also to promote and safeguard the common interests of the profession with the stakeholders, foster the participation by the members in matters of national interest relating to the profession and promote such interest by cooperating with governmental and non-Governmental organisations, to organise and arrange training programs, lectures, seminars, workshops in the field of insurance and allied subjects for its members including CPD programs, to promote fellowship and understanding among members of the Association.
