Trip to Bopath Ella
We went on a trip to Bopath Ella by bus. We packed our bags and got ready early
in the morning. We got onto the bus and sat at the back. On the way we had
breakfast at a restaurant. We arrived at Bopath Ella at 10 o’clock. We had a
bath in the river. We had lots of fun there. We played in the water for a long
time and after that we played cricket. Then we had lunch and went to the garden.
We found bridges in the garden and crossed many of them. Then we got onto the
bus to go home. We sang songs in the bus. It was dark when we reached home. We
had dinner and went to bed. I enjoyed this trip very much.

The tortoise and the rabbit
Once upon a time a rabbit and a tortoise lived in the jungle. One day, the
rabbit told the tortoise, “shall we have race”? and the tortoise agreed. That
day they had a race in the jungle. The rabbit ran fast and took a rest under a
tree. The tortoise won the race. When the rabbit woke up he saw animals cheering
the tortoise.

Look before you leap
It is better to think before you leap or else there is a great danger of falling
into a ditch. Doing things without thinking will always lead to a waste of time,
resources and energy. During my third term examination in the tenth grade I
realised that I have to work much harder. I, being a lazy girl go home after
school and watch television for one or two hours. Then as usual I take a bath,
eat and have a nap. Late in the evening I wake up, do school homework and then
watch teledramas. After that I go to bed. I never did revision. Whenever my
mother scolded me, I gave her lame excuses and never bothered to act according
to her advice. When I saw the question papers I realised that I had made a big
mistake. I could not recall anything that I had studied the day before.
Everything I did at the time seemed so useless. But it was too late.

Poson Poya Day
Poson festival is very important to Buddhists. It is in the month of June.
Arahat Mihindu Thera introduced Buddhism to Sri Lanka when King Dewanampiyatissa
was ruling the country. Before that, people worshipped trees, rocks and the sun.
After the visit of Arahat Mahinda Thera, King Dewanampiyatissa built the first
temple in Sri Lanka. Today a large number of Buddhists celebrate Poson. People
go to the temple. They decorate their houses, villages and towns using colourful
bulbs and lanterns. We can see a Perahera on that day. Some people give food
items and drinks freely to the poor. They are called Dansals. Poson festival
gives a religious touch to society and it lights the whole environment.
