He said the salons will be upgraded with technology, equipment, skills development and management that will elevate the profile to cater to a wide local and international clientel. The company will set up an internationally recognized university in Sri Lanka to provide a degree in beauty culture.

It will also develop the beauty industry in rural areas as a self-employment project to empower women.

"The standards of a large number of salons in Sri Lanka are below expectation. Around 50 percent of the salons do not posses quality certifications which is a major hindrance to develop the beauty industry in the country," he said. Around 50,000 salons operate in the country according to available data.

"We are working with the Ministry of Women and Child Care to develop the standards of salons to create a vibrant beauty industry," Perera said.

"Beauty is much more make-up. Its is a culture that transform one's life and the world around him. The number of award winners of the Dreamron College of Art & Beauty is ample testimony of the skills of youth who could be of immense use to develop the country," he said.

"Our aim is to develop skills of potential artists and raise the standards of salons to be in par with international salons," he said.

Plans are a foot to construct a state-of-the-art complex in Colombo.

Diploma and certificates were awarded to 400 students who completed courses in beauty culture, City & Guilds in 2015/2016.
