Anika, Dinesh stun top seeds - enter Mixed Doubles final

Anika Seneviratne and four times National singles tennis champion Dinesh Kanthan created a major upset when they beat defending National Mixed doubles champions and top seeds Medira Samarasinghe and Sanka Athukorala 3/6, 7/6(5), 10/8 in a thrilling Mixed doubles semi-final encounter at the National Tennis Championships continued at SLTA courts at Green Path last morning.

Medira and Sanka, the more experienced pair had four match points and seemed certain of victory before Anika and Dinesh pulled off some spectacular shots under pressure to seal an emphatic victory.

The victory gives 14-year-old Seneviratne playing in her first senior National championship a chance to win a top title.
