'Ransilu Rangana' -the biggest traditional dance show

Over 3,000 youth will perform traditional dances at the 'Ransilu Rangana', the biggest ever traditional dance show, to be held at the National Youth Services Council (NYSC) and the Elphinstone Theatre on January 19 and 20.

Students of the Budawatta Dancing Academy (BDA) of famous dancing guru Kulasiri Budawatta, will perform dances in two sessions with the participation of over 1,500 dancers each, the 20th anniversary celebrations of the academy.

Each show will have traditional dances as well as dance performances to famous Sinhala songs including songs of Visharadha W.D. Amaradeva, Nanda Malani and Malani Bulathsinghala.

Students of BDA of Maharagama and Ratmalana will stage the dancing show at the NYSC while students of BDA, Colombo will perform at the BMICH. Sixty dancers will perform over 28 dance items in each show.

Costumes for the show are designed by Nemalee Budawatta.

Awards will be given for the best dance troop and the best male and female dancer and each student will also be awarded a certificate.

A felicitation ceremony for Mr. Budawatta's mentor - S. Panibaratha - will also be held on February 24.
