McGrath faces charge of showing dissent

MELBOURNE, Jan 12 (Reuters) - Australia's Glenn McGrath was called to a disciplinary hearing after Friday's limited overs international against New Zealand and faces a possible fine or suspension, the Australian Cricket Board said on Saturday.

McGrath had stood his ground momentarily after he was given out caught behind to spinner Daniel Vettori for seven which meant Australia were all out for 176 chasing 200 to win at Melbourne Cricket Ground.

"The hearing concerned Australian fast bowler Glenn McGrath, who was charged under Clause C3 of the International Cricket Council's Players and Team Officials Code, which states: 'Players and/or Team Officials must at all times accept the umpire's decision and not show dissent at the umpire's decision,'" the ACB said in a statement.

A decision from ICC match referee Hanumant Singh, who chaired the hearing, is due later on Saturday.

Australia captain Steve Waugh was fined on a similar charge during the second test against South Africa in December, also at Melbourne Cricket Ground.
