LTTE stalwart's views not sinister - Tamil MP by Ananth Palakidnar The All Ceylon Tamil Congress (ACTC) Parliamentarian of the Jaffna district and the four-party Tamil Alliance member Appathurai Vinayagamoorthy commenting on the views expressed by the LTTE stalwart S. P. Thamilchelvan at last week's press meeting in Vanni said that they all pointed towards a meaningful settlement to the North-East crisis. Appathurai Vinayagamoorthy told the `Sunday Observer' that the visit of both foreign and local media in the LTTE held areas in Vanni had enabled them to feel the pulse of the people living in areas severely affected by the war. "Thamilchelvan has made an appeal through the media to the Sri Lankan leaders to lift the proscription on the organisation. The Tamil alliance had also made a similar appeal in its election manifesto. Now it is upto the government to decide on it. Thmailchelvan has not mentioned anything sinister and had only expressed his views more positively for a healthy peace negotiation to arrive at a meaningful settlement to the ethnic crisis," Mr. Vinayagamoorthy said.He also commended the measures taken by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and said that it was apparent the new government was treading on the right track and it should continue to do so without leaving room for any derailment. Regarding the Constitutional Council, Vinayagamoorthy said that the Tamil political parties have unanimously nominated retired High Court Judge, T. Suntheralingam on behalf of the Tamils in the North and the East and it was intimated to the government at the all party meeting convened by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe", he said. Meanwhile, the other political parties have yet to announce their nominees for the Constitutional Council, which in all probability will be known at the meeting with Prime Minister this week. |
