National Policy for Foreign Employment soon by CHAMIKARA WEERASINGHE The Minister of Labour and Employment Mahinda Samarasinghe has formulated policies for jobs on the basis of job-related functions including job orientation, generation and training programs. Minister Samarasinghe said that the policies would be drafted before the end of March this year in keeping with the Government's one hundred-day programme, envisioned by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to position the country on a firm footing towards development. The minister was speaking to officials of the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) and the Association of Licensed Foreign Employment Agencies(ALFEA) at the BMICH, Colombo last Thursday. "We will present the policies for revision in Parliament and draft a national policy on employment , which will be influential to both the State and Private Sector job enterprises including foreign employment," the Minister said. He said that job-based training programmes would be introduced after necessary adjustments to suit requirements of jobs in countries other than the Middle East in order to open the European job market for Sri Lankan Youth. "Once the employment policy has been enforced, the ministries and other government institutions will be compelled to streamline programs in compliance with it, which would ensure a healthy background for systematically solving the problem of jobs in the country," he explained. |
