Kotmale Holiday Resort by Beverley Jansz
A 'Grade Club Hotel' registered under the Ceylon Tourist Board, Kotmale Holiday Resort offers twenty five beautiful chalet-type bungalows with all modern facilities. It belongs to Mahaweli Authority, and managed by Ceylon Hotels Corporation. Surrounded by mountains with forest covered slopes and lower tea plantation and paddy fields, with the soothing sounds of the singing birds, stands this star class resort, an ideal family holiday spot, ideally located to move away from the stress of daily life. On completion of the Kotmale Dam, the Swedish Engineers left Kotmale. Their legacy - a complex of cottages, central dining and lounge facilities and recreational facilities made up the Kotmale Holiday Resort, now managed by the Ceylon Hotels Corporation, under the guidance of the new versatile Chairman, Bodisiri Jayendra Ranasinghe, and General Manager Sahinda B. Wegodapola. The resort is managed by veteran hotelier Shanthakumar Navaratne who has over 30 years experience in the hotel trade. Senior Manager, Marketing, Ceylon Hotels Corporation, Ranjith Balasuriya, another veteran hotelier with over 25 years experience, is working round the clock, under the guidance of the new chairman, and General Manager to upgrade all CHC properties to star-class hotels. A three and a half hour drive from Colombo along Colombo-Avissawella, Ginigathena, Nawalapitiya the Kotmale reservoir and dam provide breathtaking sightseeing to both foreign and Sri Lankan tourists at the Kotmale Holiday Resort.
The resort is ideal for relaxed stay in salubrious climes and idyllic surroundings and a host of recreational and sightseeing facilities with the overall plus factor of reasonable price. Cool river bathing in the nearby river which flows down to the resort, with delicious packeted lunch provided by the hotel, has become very popular and a common option among tourists. The resort area covers approximately 10 acres with tea plantations, bushes and shade trees. The chalets are built in between the beautiful flower beds which fascinate tourists. The airconditioned restaurant can accommodate about 150 guests. Set menus, week-end buffets offering culinary delights, bar-be-que and an 'a la carte' menu, are offered to guests.For an undisturbed chat, to watch television or sip a drink when conviviality is attuned to music, the cosy lounge is ideal with bar facilities.
