'Village to village - heart to heart' by Jayanthi Liyanage Over 500,000 peace mediators from 15,000 villages in the North and South will participate in a programme aimed at changing the nation's collective consciousness about war and peace. The programme titled "village to village - heart to heart," dubbed as the largest event of its kind in Sri Lanka, will be held on March 15 in Anuradhapura. The programme's other component, "village to village", will link 1,000 war-torn villages from the North and East to 1,000 sister villages in the South which can provide them with skilled and unskilled labour and material for rehabilitation of houses, wells, tanks, schools, toilets and places of religious worship. It will also bring together villagers of different ethnicity to overcome anger, animosity and prejudice of one another, in a healing of the nation. Sarvodaya plans a live webcast on www.sarvodaya.org from 1 pm - 3 pm on March 15, to take the event to the "universal village". |
