LTTers":First batch enter Govt held areas

Thurairatnam Fifty Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam cadres including women will enter government -held areas in the North and East, today to launch their political activities. Today's entry of the LTTE cadres to the government- held areas follows the agreement reached between Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and the LTTE leader Veluppillai Prabhakaran in the Memorandum of Understanding signed last month.All fifty LTTE cadres entering government-held areas today are attached to the political wing of the LTTE and their names and details have been handed over to the defence officials in the North and the East via the Norwegian facilitators. The time and the places of the entry points of the LTTE cadres were not revealed, but the LTTE headquarters in Vanni has specified 15 cadres will go into the government- held areas in Batticaloa and Ampara from the LTTE held Kokkaticholai in the East; 15 cadres will enter from the LTTE held Muttur area into the Trincomalee district and 10 cadres will come into Vavuniya district from the LTTE controlled Vanni areas. The LTTE cadres entering the government- held areas will not carry any arms with them and they will be attired in civilian clothes.According to military sources, the cadres who enter govt -held areas will be provided with special identity cards and necessary arrangements will be made to ensure their security. |
