EPF
defaulters beware!
by P. Rajaratnam in Nuwara Eliya The Nuwara Eliya District Labour officers under the direction of Mr. N.M. Abeysekara, Assistant Commissioner of Labour, Nuwara Eliya conducted investigations on almost 69 estates in the district to ensure that EPF and ETF contributions of the workers, were remitted without undue delay. This exercise was part of the Government's 100-day development program. In the course of their investigations, they have detected a number of employers in the private sector who have defaulted payment of EPF and ETF contributions to their workers. According to the Assistant Commissioner of Labour Mr. Abeysekara,
several employers have flouted the labour tribunal orders in relation to
awards or compensation granted to the workers and legal action has been
filed before the magistrate's court against errant employers. |
