Trico Maritime serves returning expats by ANTON NONIS Trico Maritime (Pvt) Ltd. (TML), a local freight forwarder, is in the process of adjusting itself to grapple with the large numbers of expatriates that have been returning to Sri Lanka since late. The TML management believes that this could be the result of the Government's peace process now in progress. Counting over 20 years of transporting personal effects from foreign lands, the company is confident of discharging duties in the most efficient manner as it had done in the past. According to Director Jayantha Kannangara, they have already served more than three million customers during this period. Transportation of goods is being done by both sea and air. Unlike in the past, a majority of customers nowadays prefer air freight, he said. Apart from its head office in Colombo, TML also has two branch offices in Kurunegala and Galle. According to Mr.Kannangara, arrangements are being made to upgrade operations in Sri Lanka by improving customer services. This would involve additional workforces for all three offices. The company initially catered to Middle Eastern customers. Now it also serves customers in Japan, Singapore, Australia, South Korea, Cyprus, Rome, London and Italy. The company has also authorised the establishment of agency offices in New York and Los Angeles for Sri Lankans living there. The TML management is presently having discussions with a German freight forwarder for a joint operation on freight services to Sri Lanka. |
