Plans to develop North West under 100-day programme The Ministry of North West Region Development is preparing a Master Development Plan for the region under the 100-Day Revolution programme initiated by the Government. The Ministry is analysing already collected data and information to prepare this plan to ensure balanced development in Kurunegala and Puttalam districts in the North West region, it said in a news release announcing the progress it had achieved within 75 days. As a means of generating job opportunities through industrial development, the Ministry had also inspected suitable sites with the relevant agencies to revive abandoned industries and to establish new industries on the basis of the information already collected with regard to this matter. Small Town Development Plans are being prepared by the Urban Development Authority for the development of identified small towns in the region while a meeting was also held recently with Members of Parliament in the region to brief them on the vision, mission and functions of the Ministry and the draft report of proposed Village Development Committees. Plans are also there to establish an Advisory Committee for the Ministry of North West Region Development. The appointments for this Council are being finalised and will be made soon. According to the news release, necessary guidelines have been prepared to establish Region Development Coordinating Committees to review the overall development programme in the region. The Ministry is also in the process of collecting data and information to enhance the living standard of women in the region. |
