Trelleborg plans expansion in Sri Lanka Trelleborg AB of Sweden, a market leader in solid industrial tyres, plans to expand its manufacturing activities in Sri Lanka. The Trelleborg Group owns and operates two solid tyre manufacturing plants in Sri Lanka. Its manufacturing facilities are located in Belgium and United States. The company’s first factory, Trelleborg Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. was started here in 1991. Subsequently, Trelleborg expanded its activities by investing on the second manufacturing plant, Trelleborg Wheel Systems Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. in the Biyagama Export Processing Zone, providing direct employment to over 700 people and indirect employment to a large number by way of supplies and services. Trelleborg AB has plans of further expansion and investments in Sri Lanka and in this regard, a high-powered delegation from the parent company, headed by President of Wheel Systems Maurizio Vischi visited Sri Lanka on an evaluation and fact finding mission. During their stay in Sri Lanka, they met Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs Ravi Karunanayake and discussed business expansion activities with him. |
