Fully equipped Trade Union Centre in the offing by Anjana Gamage A fully equipped permanent trade union centre with staff and other facilities will be set up in Colombo by the government for the use of trade union officials "Sunday Observer" learns. Minister of Labour, Mahinda Samarasinghe made this promise to the All Ceylon Union of Government English Teachers (ACUGET), unit of Education International when members met him at his parliament office last week end. The Minister also gave an assurance for the setting up of a Trade Union Centre. According to the President of ACUGET Stanley Perera, this should be a residential school where lecturers could be drawn from various departments, universities and organisations like ILO etc. " Trainees should be given full pay leave and subsidised by government funds. It should be sponsored by the government modelled on the Asian Trade Union centre in Manila," he said. |
