New year bonanza for CWE employees

by Ramani Kangaraarachchi

Over one thousand employees of the Building Material Corporation including people from Jaffna will be given a Rs. 800 worth of dry rations as a new year bonanza. Apart from this, all BMC outlets will be closed from 12 to 22 April. Chairman BMC, Major General Sarath Munasinghe said, that employees of BMC outlets in Jaffna will be issued with a token worth Rs. 800 where they could draw their requirements from the CWE outlets in Jaffna. Ration packs for others will be delivered in their relevant districts before April 12th. He also said, that these ration packs were given by donors. In addition each employee will be granted a loan of Rs 2500 interest free payable in ten instalments.

The reason for the new year bonanza for employees Chairman Munasinghe said was because goods worth several millions were sold at reduced prices during the massive clearance sale from last month and employees helped to dispose of those items working round the clock without claiming any overtime payment. "It was really great of them. We were able to reduce a Rs. 58 million loan to Rs. 28 million while repaying several other loans as well after the sale and the management is very appreciative of their cooperation," he added.
