Maldives draw with Sri Lanka 1 - all

COLOMBO - April 6 (AFP) - The Maldivian football team became the first foreigners to play in Sri Lanka's war-ravaged northern peninsula of Jaffna Saturday, local residents said.

The match ended in a 1-1 draw, but there was a huge enthusiastic presence by an estimated 15,000 spectators in entertainment-starved Jaffna town.

Sri Lanka's Interior Minister John Amaratunga and Rehabilitation Minister Jayalath Jayawardena were also among the merry-makers, residents said.
